Spider-Man versus Man-Bat! OK, not really. The new character’s name is Batwing. He was a young kid–about 13–who got stuck in Carlsbad Caverns and drank water that had illegally dumped chemicals in it, and it turned him into a were-bat.
He’s a classic “misunderstood villain”–who is just trying to survive while evil scientists want to catch him.
Spider-Man’s experience with the kid leads him to help a neighborhood kid who is being abused by his own parents.
There’s nothing terribly original about Batwing, but the fact that he has dozens of subsequent appearances in comics not written by Kurt Busiek is a testament to how much people loved this series.
