This issue starts with Spider-Man spotting a traffic jam and, sympathetic to the commuters, he tries to help.  Which, of course, just pisses people off.  I loved these kinds of interactions, and they’re really missing from today’s comics.  Today, books are almost exclusively about heroes, and almost never about regular people living around them.

Also in this story, speaking of “regular people,” we get the first appearance of Lance Bannon.  Bannon is the other head photographer at the Daily Globe, where Peter is working because he finally got sick of working for J. Jonah Jameson over at the Bugle.  Basically, Bannon is Peter’s competition.

And in the superhero part of the story, Spider-Man essentially fights Firestorm, except in this case it’s two midget scientists who are fused together.

They die in the end.
