PUNISHER #7 (1996)

For the first six issues of this volume of Punisher, everyone thought he had been executed for killing Nick Fury.

Mikel Fury is pissed.

It was inevitable that law enforcement would figure out Castle’s death was faked–especially since Frank has taken on the role of boss of a major crime family. There’s a big shoot-out and it all ends in Punisher’s favor because SHIELD didn’t have a warrant. So the new boss–GW Bridge, who replaced Fury–kicks Mikel out of the Department.

Up until now, I’ve really liked this comic. But this issue is stupid. Punisher was convicted, go the death penalty, and then became the leader of a major crime family. Making SHIELD unsympathetic here is beyond dumb.
