MARVEL FANFARE #30 (1987)

Wraparound covers are one good thing about Marvel Fanfare.

So are two-pages spreads on glossy paper.

Earth’s moon is an odd phase, and Moon Knight gets some powers as a result, and fights a green spirit lady.  I prefer the “Doug Moench” take on Moon Knight, which is basically that he’s a nut job who only THINKS the Moon God gives him power, so this story falls a bit flat for me.  Plus, Ann Nocenti has a tendency to get “big” and “mystical” sometimes, and this story plays to her weaknesses not her strengths. I like her as a writer, but she’s best when she ensures strong ties to reality alongside her more abstract and wordy content. I mean, Marc Spector talks like he’s Shakespeare…
