Giant-Size Man-Thing #1-3 (1974-1975)

Man-Thing versus Glob by Steve Gerber and Mike Ploog! Marine Corpsman Joe Timms is turned into Glob by a black magic cult and forced to fight Man-Thing.

Silly, mucky fun.

The rest of this issue is reprints, as is true of issue #2, which also has a short original Man-Thing story by Gerber, this time drawn by John Buscema. Once again, there is encroachment on the swamp by corporate interests, and this time Tony Stark and Reed Richards try to stave it off in the boardroom.

Of course, Man-Thing is not satisfied by this, and he also attacks board members.

Interestingly enough, Tony and Reed never use their powers in this issue.

Then #3 is par with where the Man-Thing series was a the beginning of 1975: A big magic epic with Korrek and the sorceress Jennifer Kale. These are not my personal favorite types of Gerber Man-Thing stories. They’re not bad, they’re just really weird–almost to the point of self-indulgence.
