Now we come to fourth title change for this struggling book, from “Luke Cage Power Man” to just Power Man. In a (much better) effort save Luke’s solo book, Marvel brings in the powerhouse team of Chris Claremont and John Byrne, and brings along iron Fist and his terrific supporting cast to join up with Cage and, by #50, they share title billing. But first they fight.

Colleen Wing also gets some good screen time.

The elements of what was to come are all here–very strong side characters, with extremely different backgrounds and skill sets–along with a good sense of humor and an emphasis on family-like relationships.
Issue #49 will be the last “solo” issue for Luke. Before he signs off, though, he goes up against the old Hulk villain Zzzax.

Then Iron Man finally meets Luke Cage. When the two bromancers first meet, they fight–of course.
And here’s the awesome result:

That’s Shades and Comanche looking stunned that someone could do that kind of damage to Cage. And to his yellow shirt.
Next: Another title change, and one of the most beloved books of the ’80s.
