White Tiger #1-6 (2006-2007)

Angela del Toro is the niece of the recently murdered prior White Tiger (Hector Ayala).  Her partner was also killed and she was betrayed by her own agency (she’s FBI and you can read her story in the excellent Bendis Daredevil arc.  All that happens before this book even starts.  The early pages of this miniseries have her shopping because, you know, she’s a chick hero.

Then she meets with the fake Daredevil (i.e., Danny Rand wearing the costume while Matt Murdock is in jail—again, see the Bendis Daredevil storyline) to establish the story in continuity.  Iron Fist/Daredevil works with her throughout the book as she takes on the Yakuza and a new version of Cobra.

Just as Angela is the niece and legacy version of a hero, Piet Vorhees is the nephew and legacy of the original Cobra.  His Uncle injected him with the same formula that gave Klaus Vorhees his abilities, and Piet became a mercenary working for an organization helping the Yakuza get fake identities so they can infiltrate the United States.

The nature of the mission is perfect for a hero with an FBI background, the writing is solid enough.  Good stuff.  It would be better, though, if the story didn’t have so many pointless cameos…

White Tiger is in New York City and so she meets Luke Cage, fights with Lizard, and even meets Deadpool at one point.

These are all distractions that take away from the force of the main story.  I would have graded this higher if it were one or two issues shorter with a tighter and more focused narrative.

Marvel promoted this in the first issue of “Daily Bugle,” which was basically this time period’s answer to Marvel Age/Bullpen Bulletins.

In other words, it was a few pages long, cost a quarter, and had house ads and little pieces of interesting information.
