HOWARD THE DUCK #32-33 (1986): Series ends

When he was being written by Steve Gerber, Howard the Duck was an acquired taste better in the rear view than in the actual experience. Now he’s got a powerhouse artist (Paul Smith) and an up-and-coming writer (Steven Grant), and he’s…Pretty much the same. Tepid material.

The full-page origin introducing the comic is the best part of #32.

Issue #33 is written and drawn by Val Mayerick, who was an artist for Gerber. But it’s really not any better. He wins the lotto, gets a million bucks. Loses it.

And with that, this series is officially cancelled, several years after it was put on hiatus.
