X-MEN UNLIMITED #13 (2006)

Story 1: Mesmero was depowered after M Day and is dating a hooker. After her pimp gives him a beatdown, she kills the pimp and they live happily ever after.

Story 2: Some guy called The Marvel, who we’ve never seen before and won’t see again, was also depowered and is sad about it. But it turns out he imagined the whole thing. Hm. I guess this is supposed to be like a M Night Shamalyan type story or something.

Other than Clay Mann, the creatives here didn’t go on to do anything else for Marvel.

At least it’s got a hot Mike Deodato cover.

  1. I am actually looking forward to locating a copy of this and reading it- Mesmero is actually one of Marvel’s more inspired villainous creations- he has a power that I would take in a New York minute. ( persuasion- see also under ‘Killgrave the Purple Man’, and his illegitimate-yet-smashingly-gorgeous-offspring ‘The Purple Girl’, aka ‘Persuasion’ ) Isn’t it worthy to note how three out of four ( yes, that’s seventy-five percent! ) of the X-Men’s most famous and time-tested adversaries were all introduced in the 1960’s-???!!! Magneto! The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants! The Juggernaut! The Sentinels! The Living Pharoah/Monolith! Sauron! And……….( drum-roll, here ) Mesmero!!!! Face it! You just can’t keep a good ‘Original X-Men’ villain down! As for the remaining, post-1975 villains, I would say, charitably, Mystique, Mister Sinister, The Brood, and, above all others- Count Dracula!! ( ol’ Vlad just loves him some Storm!!!! Can’t blame him for that! No, sir!! ) Ten-four!!!!
