An assassin named Mister X kidnaps Wolverine and tries to get him to sign a quitclaim relinquishing his right to call himself “The Best There Is.” If this story was created in the 1980s, it would have been era-appropriate silly fun. It’s 2001. And yet, I still kind of got a kick out of it.
Also, it’s extremely violent and bloody, which would not have been era appropriate in the ’80s. Oh, and Mister X’s henchwomen are a duo collectively called “The Ladykillers” and referred to individually as “T” and “A”. They use whips and sais and stuff.
Mister X also has a big strong dude named Blok.
Wolverine ultimately escapes captivity after a big, savage battle, and in the end returns to the island prison with Nightcrawler, but there is no sign of Mister X anywhere.
Also, Sabretooth gets kidnapped–presumably, a seed for a future story.
