I guess 2005 was the year of the return of Marvel monsters, what with a bunch of one-shots featuring Silver Age Kirby/Kirbyesque creatures, an MTU Special bringing back Giganto–the monster from Fantastic Four #1–and now this: Giant robots and monsters attacking Japan!
Fortunately for me, I love this stuff!
The FF are in Japan for the opening of the Tokyo Giant Monster Museum (totally believable that this would exist, btw), which was built after attacks by Droom (who I guess now replaces Godzilla and makes those 1970s Godzilla issues non-canon???), when a giant robot attacks …

This is followed by a load of creatures, meditating moloids, fights, with Iron Man (also in town) teaming up with the FF. One of the best scenes has a “1970s monster movie version” of Iron Man befriending Droom…

…After which, he leads the monster in front of a Japanese firing squad of tanks.

It’s impossible not to love this.
Every issue has a double-size cover. The entire thing is light and fun–perfect for kids and unserious adults. This is a perfect comic.
A word about the art, by the late great Seth Fisher: It’s excellent. That’s one word. Fisher tragically died after creating this book when he fell from a rooftop at a party celebrating the release of the series. Tremendous loss for comics.
