CHAMPIONS #4 (1976)

About 75% of Marvel’s 1970s output can be summarized thusly: Hero A fights Hero B due to (a) Mind Control; (b) a stupid misunderstanding; or (c) because one of them has a huge ego.

In this issue, The whole Champions team fights a mind-controlled Hercules, who has a huge ego and rarely understands much of anything.

Black Widow, however, is able to shake off the mind control.

Because she’s mentally tough.

But she has trouble beating the undertow.

The villain is an evil scientist who we will never see again because he created a bunch of mutates who eat him in the end.
