This is an Ann Nocenti joint, so of course it’s offbeat. And honestly, it probably would have worked better if it had been a series–with time to develop the complicated concepts within.
Inhuman youth are literally killing themselves to resist marriages arranged by a royal council that seems to be trying to something about racial purity.
The Inhumans argue about it, gnash their teeth (literally)…
…And things come to a head when the council does not give Medusa permission to have the baby she has conceived with Black Bolt.
Of course, Maximus ends up being at the bottom of all of it. Eventually, Medusa has her baby (Ahura), Maximus is back in prison, etc.
Some good ideas here that are rushed to conclude so the story can fit in a single novel.
