At the end of last issue, Tony Stark decided it was time for a press conference to let the world know that The Avengers were back.

I love how Brian Michael Bendis takes the standard “new lineup” issue and only shows you them from behind. I don’t actually know if that was in the script or an artistic decision by Frank Cho, but it’s wonderful.
Anyway, Spider-Man’s presence on the team sends J. Jonah Jameson around the bend and he immediately launches a campaign against the new team.

It’s also not how this issue begins. It starts with a fight between Klaw and Ms. Marvel.

She’s successful in capturing him, and Captain America offers her a slot on the new team.

She says no because what happened during House of M–where she was hailed as a hero–and thinks that being part of a team will prevent her from becoming a “next level” hero. Turns out she’s right–becoming a solo act led to a movie deal.

This is interesting…

I *think* they do this because this whole issue is narrated by Carol Danvers and the heroes have agreed to “not talk about” House of M, so it’s a kind of creative redaction to stop us, the readers, from seeing it. I’m going with that as the reason and putting a “Breaking the 4th Wall” tag on this issue.
Spider-Woman is on the cover, but this is really a Ms. Marvel issue. On the last page, we see that Jessica Drew is continuing to act as if she is part of Hydra (at Captain America’s urging). She meets with a Hydra agent who tells her that Nick Fury has returned and is coming for Hydra. We the readers learned that last issue, and also saw that he was part of the reason Captain America let Jessica stay on the team. So, once again, Fury is behind the scenes engineering everything.
I though its because Carol retains her memories of the House of M world due to being awakened by Layla Miller but Captain America wasnt. Still doesn’t make much sense, he knows what happened 2nd hand? But also its only redacted once on the same page? Also wouldn’t they call it M-Day in-universe?
That makes sense.
