AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #253 (1984): 1st The Rose

This is the first appearance of The Rose, a crime lord with cool gas gadgets, who we will later learn is Wilson Fisk’s son Richard, who first appeared as The Schemer in Amazing Spider-Man #83.  As an introduction, his first crime is rigging a professional football game.

Also, the new black costume protects Peter from Rose’s gas.  Cool.

I love Rick Leonardi’s art, by the way.  Nice and lanky Spider-Man.

But what about the scene at right?

Let me get this straight: Peter Parker designed his own web shooters at the age of 16, and can get front-page worthy pictures using a camera taped to the wall, but he can’t figure out a telefoto lens?

  1. The weird thing is that RODERICK KINGSLEY was intended to be The Rose and Richard Fisk was supposed to be The Hobgoblin! Ah, comics! And of course Ned Leeds is now back alive again. Again, comics .🤦‍♂️
