THUNDERBOLTS #13-14 (1998)

The team finds themselves on another planet, in the middle of a revolution. It’s a fine space story, but the really critical part is where Moonstone, Songbird, and Fixer agree to execute the king of the planet and support the rebels. Killing is not something Marvel heroes are supposed to do lightly, and the T-Bolts are supposed to be heroes now. The king is on his knees before them, and both Songbird and Fixer can’t go through with it.

But Moonstone does it casually–without a second thought.

And then the three of them cover it up.

I don’t think I’ve seen such a realistic and complex portrait of murder in any Marvel comic before or since.

Closing panels of this issue show Zemo is plotting revenge against the team.
