Marvel Comics Presents #12 (1989): Hercules

Not only is this a Hercules solo story without Bob Layton, but it’s got Don Heck.  And yet…it’s actually not bad.  J. Jonah Jameson can’t stand having a Greek God walk around New York, so he has a reporter set up Hercules to look bad. We see Herc do a ton of good deeds until JJJ’s trick happens, and Zeus comes down and tries to kill Jonah’s reporter for trying to humiliate his son.

Herc stops Zeus because, as the title of this short story says, “Noble fathers have noble children!” And it was a test anyway–Zeus knew the whole thing all along.

God-fathers in Marvel are pretty much jerks.
