CAPTAIN MARVEL #32-33 (1974): 1st DEATH OF THANOS

IMG_7916

This continues Thanos’ first adventure with the Cosmic Cube.  As a character, he’s always trying to grab some shit that don’t belong to him and use it to be all-powerful, mostly to impress Death.

But Captain Marvel shatters the cube, and Thanos is taken by Death, who has still never spoken to Thanos, but now we know she can laugh at him.

Lots of terrific fights and patented Starlin layouts. Nobody could do “big stories” like him. Of course Thanos is eventually vanquished and killed, and Death does not react in any kind of a validating or emotionally intelligent way.

Isn’t that the way?  You try like Hell to impress a chick and she just laughs at you.

Incidentally, issue #33 was written by Steve Englehart, NOT Jim Starlin.
