MARVEL FANFARE #8: The Bill Sienkiewicz Portfolio Issue (1983)

Ok, so Carmine Infantino draws a Dr. Strange story. The art is so bad, it’s hard to get through, even with a serviceable Peter B. Gillis script (which brings back Dark Crawler from The Defenders as villain). Then there’s the beginning of a Gil Kane adaptation of The Jungle Book called Wolf-Boy. There’s no reason to read this comic, until you get to the end. Five incredible Bill Sienkiewicz pictures.

This was the first “portfolio” issue–a feature that would become fairly regular for this glossy magazine. So much more dignified than calling them “pin-ups.”
