To really dig this, we have to care not only about a new villain but about an entire country’s civil war that is both generic and brand new to us, as readers. This title asks a lot from us–to bond with so much “newness” quickly and in short bursts of violence.
To try to be more intimate, there are back-up stories that familiarize readers with the cast of Force Works, and are narrated by their Recorder robot.
The back-ups are better than the main features.
