Spider-Man: Mysterio Manifesto #1-3 (2001)

Mysterio died in ____ LINK, but then started popping back up in the pages of Daredevil. This miniseries does NOT answer the question, “WTF?” by revealing that the new Mysterio is a dude named Danny Berkhardt. Instead, it features a NEW (and pointless) misdirection.

The good news: It’s drawn by Lee Weeks. The bad news: It’s written by Tom DeFalco.

Spider-Man and Daredevil team up after a fake Spidey attacks DD and J. Jonah Jameson gets kidnapped by “Mad Jack.”

And a bunch of other fake stuff happens, most notably the return of Mary Jane and Peter Parker’s dead daughter. It made me have flashbacks of the Clone Saga so…Not happy. It’s all illusions, of course. I did like the poster-like spreads by Lee Weeks…

Mad Jack turns out to be Mysterio’s cousin (and a female). Quentin Beck is in fact dead and she blames the heroes for it. Here’s the big take down:

It reads like the last two minutes of every Scooby Doo cartoon.
