X-Men #180-181 (2006): What Lorna Saw

Polaris was de-powered by Scarlet Witch, but for the last several issues we’ve been told that she had a premonition of a big danger coming.  These issues explore that storyline.

At the end of the last story, Lorna and Havok quit the X-Men, even though Scott tried to stop him.

But you can’t stop love, and Alex and Lorna have that. They also seem to have endless funds because they use this as an excuse to travel the world and get into fights with anti-mutant racists.  Their adventures bring them into contact with Daap.  The cover makes you think it’ll be Doop, but it’s not.  Daap’s a bad guy, it turns out, so they kill it.

Meanwhile, Gazer—who is part of the interstellar threat anticipated by Lorna—is … I dunno.  Don’t really care.

Also: Apocalypse reappears and doesn’t like what’s happening to the X-Men (I don’t either!).  And Mystique joins the group with Augustus, who she intends to be Rogue’s next boyfriend.

The next arc will be the return of Apocalypse. Please make this stop.

  1. I agree. Apocalypse/Darkseid/Thanos all need to go AWAY, and for GOOD. I am SICK of ALL of those guys. It’s awfully easy to overdo villains like this, and Marvel and DC have both accomplished this. I also hear you in re Havok and Polaris’ travel account- my largest gripe with the Avengers, DC’s ‘Teen Titans’, and the X-Men is the unbelievably money-easy world in which they all live. ( the FF are a little different- super-genius Mr. Fantastic is not good with a dollar, so his team tends to go bankrupt, on occasion-it’s kind of refreshing, really ) I personally have been wondering about how Alex and Lorna financially support themselves, since the 1960’s- when we first meet Lorna in ‘X-Men’#49, she is a teenaged girl with dyed-brown hair, living in an apartment, with absolutely no visible means of support. Now, that’s cool for a life of adventure, but how does it keep a roof over your head, and grubs in your belly-?? Ditto for Alex Summers, whose only occupations he has ever had are X-Factor/X-Men/college bum/”Doctoral candidate”- that’s cool, but how do you make a LIVING at it-??? Just TELL us, Alex, and I will go out and become a “doctoral candidate”, TOO!!!! Been racking my brain over this one since 1968-1969! Are there any answers on the mutant horizon-?? I didn’t think so!
