THOR ANNUAL #6 (1977): Guardians of the Galaxy

You certainly can’t accuse Marvel of not hyping the original GotG. They seem to be everywhere.

Thor travels to the 31st Century to visit them, as a result of the intervention of Korvac, who not only throws forward in time, but throws him out into space. Because Thor can’t breathe in space, he “dies” and becomes frozen.  But he’s immortal, so when Starhawk happens upon him, he is able to pull him on to the Guardians’ vessel and thaw him out.

He’s rescued by Starhawk

He’s thawed in a manner reminiscent of Captain America.

Then they call team up against Korvac.

It is in this story that we learn that Korvac is a Badoon computer from the future who, in this story, breaks free from his masters. Thor was a pawn in this effort.

A fine romp.
