AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #209 (1980): 1st Calypso

Kraven’s girlfriend Calypso teases him about not being able to capture Spider-Man, so he goes and does it. Because the great white hunter is nothing if not macho.

Also, it makes for a nice splash page.

This is Calypso’s first appearance and she doesn’t do much. She’ll be bigger later.

Spider-Woman makes a cameo to note that the corrupt West Coast magazine publisher from her comic (Rupert Dockery) is moving to the East Coast. It’s just a cross-promotion pop-in.

Alan Weiss’ Spider-Man is pretty cool to look at, and I do enjoy Denny O’Neil’s writing, but this is the strangest Spider-Man thought ever:
