Matt goes to Europe to track down the man he believed killed his best friend and partner, Foggy Nelson. (Foggy is really alive but in witness protection.). The story is a fun read (it’s written by Brubaker, after all), but largely not necessary to recap. The conspiracy leads Matt to Tombstone.

The gangster is also in Europe.

He’s working for the true mastermind behind the plot to kill Foggy and set Murdock up to be a fugitive, the person who hired Danny Rand to pose as Daredevil…The one behind everything…And that person is…

Vanessa Fisk.
She tells Murdock that she can clear his name if he will work to legally get her husband out of prison. He says no, but she clears him anyway by having the FBI Agent who outed him as Daredevil commit “suicide” and leave a note saying the whole thing was faked and Matt’s not Daredevil.
This story is VERY complicated. There are at least a half-dozen twists. But the pay-off really isn’t what it should be. Vanessa’s rationale is that Matt will help her husband anyway once she does her part, even though he didn’t agree to the deal, which is just silly.
Anyway, she’s got a fatal illness and dies soon after.

He gets reunited with Foggy, because now it’s safe to come out of hiding, they decide to re-form their legal partnership (Foggy never learns that Matt will ALWAYS let him down), and Matt does in fact free Kingpin. Which is just silly.
I enjoyed reading this story because it’s so well written and drawn, but there are too many holes in it for me to rate it higher than a C+.
