X-Men #177-179 (2006): House Arrest

This is the “day after House of M” story for this series, in which we learn that Polaris and Iceman have been de-powered and Sentinels attack the X-Institute.  Polaris hides her power loss, fearing it means she will be kicked off the team. Iceman tells his team-mates but still tries to help fend of the Sentinel attack.

Except that it’s not an attack.  Nevertheless, Wolverine cuts one down and it fall, destroying the mansion.

After that, Valerie Cooper reveals herself and says the Sentinels are under her command and are here to help—this new breed of Sentinels are programmed to protect mutants, not kill them.

This whole scene is stupid.  Why wouldn’t Val just, you know, phone ahead before dropping mutant killing robots on their lawn?  And the whole dumb fight lasts for an issue-and-a-half.

Meanwhile, the Sapien League and its leader the Leper Queen are outside the mansion waiting to attack.

They take Bobby, whose powers suddenly return.  The Sentinels team up with the X-Men to drive off the Leper Queen’s army.

White Queen then explains that Bobby just thought he’d lost his powers—it was psychosomatic.

That’s dumb too.  It wasn’t psychosomatic for Lorna, though, so she quits and Havoc goes with her.

This is not a great story.

Seeding for the future: In space, Gazer loses his powers after M-Day.  Mystique and Augustus are still being criminals and Mystique still wants him to bang her daughter, Rogue, who is still involved with that loser Gambit.

Jesus, Rogue. You’re better than this.
