The book is, of course, Mike Barr and Jim Aparo’s wonderful, not-at-all cynical Batman and the Outsiders. The book ran under that title for 32 issues until Batman once again took his football and went home, in Alan Davis’ great tribute to that “origin panel” above.
It’s pretty rare that a book comes-and-goes in such an organic, consistent manner. Throughout all the issues it was a great ride of good, wholesome Batman fun. Before Frank Miller made him all dark and all.
The book debuted in August 1983, making this 40 YEARS since its debut.
