“Endings and Beginnings” is an odd final issue. He spends most of the issue talking with “himself” (unclear if it’s a vision or an actual alternate future self) about all the mean and stupid stuff he’s done, and wrestles with his new role serving with his father as the ruler of an island nation. Specifically, his role as a father working for his own father who has a history of categorically evil behavior.
Fatherhood is the theme, and it’s pretty well done.
Pietro ends up leaving Crystal a heart-felt letter of apology and telling her he is “ready to grow up.”
And with that fairly important character adjustment, the series is over.
