NOTE: The posts on Garth Ennis’ “Demon” comics were originally on another side, published back in 2015, reprinted here for posterity
After Demon #40, Garth Ennis and John McCrea wrote Demon’s 1993 Annual. They really wasted no time in getting to the good stuff in their run on The Demon in 1993. The annual, their second outing with the character, introduced Hitman, who would be one of Ennis’ greatest creations.
In his third Demon story and second numbered issue (his first was Demon #40, his second story was Demon Annual #2, and #41 was a fill-in), Garth Ennis introduces a romantic pair of love seat cushions. I am fairly certain nobody had done this before. Or since. And this isn’t even as weird as Ennis’ run would get. In fact, in issue #43 he introduces…
Lady Smegma. How the hell did Ennis get away with that?
This was the “Hell’s Hitman” arc, which followed after Demon Annual #2.
