The Alias series is over, but Brian Michael Bendis still wants to write about his creation, Jessica Jones. Enter the new series, “The Pulse,” which has the advantage of being about the Daily Bugle and sporting a Spider-Man cover. So, it’s a vehicle for Jessica but brings with it the Spider fanverse (and also it’s not obviously about a woman, which tends to reduce sales–or at least it did back in 2004).
J. Jonah Jameson (rightly) suspects that Normal Osborn is behind the brutal murder of one of his reporters and insists that Ben Urich get to the bottom of it. How is Jessica Jones involved? She’s hired to be the “vigilante analyst” for a new superhero section of the Bugle. Guess what it’s called? That’s right, The Pulse.
This takes place before Marvel Knights: Spider-Man, in that it culminates in a big Green Goblin battle. Osborn is defeated, with Luke Cage dealing the final blow.
He is then imprisoned for the first time, ever, which is where we find him at the beginning of MK:SpM. Notably, this is Bendis’ first story with Osborn–who will later form the basis for several fantastic storylines in the New Avengers reboot.
And Jessica is pregnant.
It’s Bendis: There’s TONS of dialogue, and it’s all very well written.
A solid comic.
