Warren Ellis! Brian Wood! Steve Pugh!
As part of the “Revolution” event that moved the timeline forward 6 months, Generation X investigate who is responsible for taking a group of kids out of schools and sending them to a “House of Corrections,” where they are tortured by a guy named Warden Coffin.
Yeah. This is THAT kind of Warren Ellis story.
Coffin is a mutant hired by the U.S. Government to create a school for wayward kids that was closed down in the ’70s, but unbeknownst to all, Coffin kept three of the kids and experimented on them.
When the Columbine shooting happened, the government renewed their contract with him.
Generation X takes him down and frees the children.
Yeah, this is very, very dark. It marks a dramatic shift for this title–and it comes at a time when this comic really needed a reboot.
There’s a lot of good things about this book, not the least of which is that the team seem to be in full control of their powers now, but they’re still kids–and they’re looking out for other kids.
Another good thing: Although it references the X-Men, it’s entirely separate.
Well done.
