UNCANNY X-MEN #168 (1983): 1st Madelyne Pryor; Prof X is a jerk

Iconic splash page. But Illyana kinda gets the better dis, right on the next page.

She’s mad because Xavier won’t let her go on X-missions.

And this is interesting…

Kitty can feel temperatures while she is phasing? But she can’t be harmed? So what happens if she phases into a volcano, will she feel like she is being burned alive but not actually burn?

Wolverine leaves the team for a bit.

And Professor X does too.

Lots of Kitty in this issue, great character moments.

Then she fights a bunch of Sidrian Hunters.

With the help of Lockheed.

Also: Cyclops is trying to find himself. He has been with Lee Forrester on an island, but he leaves her…

…And meets Madelyne Pryor for the first time.

And Nightcrawler gets sexy for Amanda Sefton.

  1. 1) You have a point in re the physics of Shadowcat’s powers: When in phase-mode, Shadowcat should be completely impervious to all feeling and pain. Therefore, the sequence where she is shivering in the cold while in phase-mode is a bad case of writer’s gaffe. Hopefully, some bright physics-student fan-boy copped a No-Prize off of it in 1983. 3) I’ve heard of, and even encountered, a few serious cases of puberty’s “early bloomers”, but Paul Smith’s exacting details of Shadowcat’s curves are disturbingly hot. 3) Cyclops must have developed a cerebral hemorrhage while on Magneto Island if he’s blowing off the chance to “run away” with Lee Forrester to the four corners of the Earth. Just think-had he had the presence of mind to do so, he could have totally spared himself the entire ordeal with Madelyne Pryor! Couldn’t a telepath as powerful as Professor X detect a cerebral hemorrhage-??! Holy boners!!
