This issue is ridiculous, but I liked it because it’s an exercise in one of my favorite genres: Women’s Prison.
Dazzler is sent to Rykers’ Island on a murder charge for killing Klaw (she didn’t do it), and we see her sleeping on a prison bed in a full bottoms-and-top red prison pajama set. Then, she’s yanked out of bed by the trustees, who happen to be the female wrestlers-turned-villains The Grapplers, who apparently are allowed to serve their time in full costume.
Despite the fact that they have boots and (presumably) padded or armored costumes, Dazz beats them in just her jammies.
And becomes queen of the women’s prison.
Also, it’s worth noting that in the top panel, her top is a full shirt, but when she springs into battle it turns into a belly-shirt.
As for her murder charge, she beats it.
But still feels bad because Klaw “died.”
And despite the fact that there are several courtroom pages, there’s no appearance by Matt Murdock or Foggy Nelson.
Danny Fingeroth has to write a Dazzler series where Quasar and Dazzler finally become a cosmic light based power couple and Danny Fingeroth should retcon that Dazzler is in fact not Shatterstars mother but Spiral is Shatterstars biological mother Wendell Elvis Vaughn and Alison Priscilla Blaire will be totally super hot 🔥 together.
YOu have given this a lot of thought. Much respect.
Mr. Ekko is correct. Really, the only noteworthy detail of this entire issue is that it’s a Marvel courtroom drama, with absolutely no hide nor hair of Nelson and/or Murdock. While reading this issue, I just assumed that either one or the other would show up, and was absolutely stupified when it didn’t happen. I double-checked the issue to make sure I just didn’t blink and miss them. No Marvel character can visit Florida without battling Man-Thing, and no Marvel character can his/her day in court without the involvement of Nelson and/or Murdock. So, this really is a remarkable issue for having transcended that rule. That, and Dazzler’s magic transforming belly-shirt.
