Captain America #204-205 (1976-1977)

Kirby loved to draw Flacon like this–bursting forward, so big he can’t even fit in the panel.

I wish I could say that Kirby’s return to his most famous creation was going well.  I can’t.  And it’s driving everyone crazy.  Sharon and Falcon are both undergoing psychiatric treatment at SHIELD.

While visiting them, Cap has to fight a monster who broke free from the SHIELD prison.

Why SHIELD keeps both medical patients and monsters at the same facility is beyond me, but it’s convenient here because it allows them to unleash crazy Falcon so he can team up with Cap to fight the monster.

In so doing, Falcon gets to go free.

And they go for lunch.

All better from the previous crazy.

Combat is a cure for crazy!

The Night People make another appearance, but thankfully they don’t turn into regular characters.

  1. Somehow, I just can’t see Captain America watching television beyond news broadcasts. Certainly not for entertainment. He’s WAAAAAAYYY too mission-focused for that. When Winghead is not on mission, he is at Avengers Mansion either A) Training/working out. B) On monitor duty. C) Socializing/dining with fellow Avengers. ( especially the Scarlet Witch ) or D) Sawing logs. Just can’t see Cap wasting time watching television shows or movies, or even sports. This unfortunate drivel is just further proof-positive/indication of Kirby’s professional deterioration during the 1970’s. At the outset of this post, Mr. Ekko refers to Captain America as “Kirby’s most famous creation”. Wouldn’t that be either the X-Men, or the Incredible Hulk-??? It seems to me that the Incredible Hulk has had a higher media profile due to A) “The Incredible Hulk” TV show of 1978-1982, and B) The fact that ol’ Jade-Jaws has enjoyed non-stop, continuous publication for almost sixty years now, beginning with “Tales to Astonish” in 1965, and carrying through to the present day. I don’t think Cap can match that.
