Iron Man was the bad guy in Civil War. He shouldn’t have been. It shouldn’t be so obviously wrong to follow the law and enable the country to proactively address threats like Nitro, who blew up a schoolbus. But the depiction of Iron Man has him working with super-criminals, separating families, and willing to take any lengths to control the superhuman population. So he’s a bad guy.

To keep having their titular character be a hero, these issues show Tony trying to do the right thing but being pulled by special interests and politicians with agendas. So the writers take a bit of a victim tack here, working to keep readers’ sympathies with the hero.
To work the readers’ sympathies further, he has Happy Hogan get killed by Spymaster and, with his dying wish, telling Tony to keep supporting the Registration Act.

Tony also confronts Captain America on a baseball diamond to find out if his old friend had anything to do with the attack on Hogan. Cap says no, but then his team attacks Tony and there’s a battle on the playing field.
Lots of over-the-top stuff here (the baseball diamond is definitely more than is necessary), but overall it’s not bad.
And this death has stuck as far as I know despite the character having MCU prominence. Almost 20 years.
I know. he’s due for a rebirth.
