This is “the one where the danger room becomes a character.” The story begins with the X-Men and the FF fighting a giant monster. After complaining that fighting big monsters is really the Fantastic Four’s mission, the X-Men explain that their new goal is to rehabilitate the world’s view of mutants by solving problems.
The writing in this book is extraordinary.
Meanwhile, back at the Xavier Institute, Wing is killed during a danger room session.
Danger has become self-aware.
The X-Men learn of the death from a new character, Blindfold.
She predicts the coming of Danger.
Above it all, Abby Brand of S.W.O.R.D. is also monitoring the X-Men, and she has a new alien working with her.
That’s Sydren, who is a telepath and computer hacker. And a wise ass.
Danger then raises up a sentinel to attack the X-Men when they return from their monster mission.
Great art, too.
After the dust settles, she animates Wing.
A zombie! Cool!
But Danger is then able to build herself a body.
She seems to be winning the battle until Professor X, her “father”, shows up. They “talk” and Danger is able to reconstruct a massive Sentinel monster built from the remains of the sentinel who wiped out the population of Genosha.
Huge fun battle. The X-Men win. But we learn that Danger has existed for years, Professor X knew it, and kept it secret from his team. Danger flies off into space in the end, having been betrayed by her “father.”
The last page of the story shows us that Hellfire Club is next.
With a revived Cassandra Nova!
Through narrative boxes, Sebastian Shaw articulates that Emma is actually working with the Hellfire Club.
