In the last story, we learned that Dust was dying–turning into glass–and had mere days to live. Beast is unable to stop her mutant power from killing her, but Donald Pierce–held in a cell at the Young X-Men’s base–says he can help.
Dust frees him from his prison, but is stopped by her teammates. Refusing to fight them, we get a big fight against Pierce. And during it, Dust dies.

Ink uses a tattoo of the phoenix to resurrect her, and the team runs off to combat a new threat. It ends with a big team fight…

Interspersed across these issues, we see an alternate future where Dust has lost her soul due to Ink’s actions and is killing off the X-Men.
I’m not the biggest fan of the X-Men publishing line. I can appreciate it, but also often find it overcrowded and confusing. But this book was a rising star that was on an upswing and needed to keep going. I don’t know if this “Dust has no soul” storyline will be continued, but I hope so. There’s lots of potential here.
