Young X-Men #10 (2009)

This series just starting to move from good to great, but sadly it’s winding down.  This issue offers the origin of Cipher, which goes all the way back to the days of Jean Grey and Mutant Town.  Cyclops and Jean kept her hidden, but we see that she’s been a player behind the scenes of Young X-Men since issue #1.

She’s been kept hidden because someone wants to kill her–but now she is starting to reveal herself out of loneliness.  We don’t know who the person is that is looking for her.  Yet.

This is a very nice introduction to a new character.  There’s a lot of mystery, and it’s the kind that makes me want to know more, and she’s “arriving” with long-term attachments that instantly make her central to the storyline.

Also in this issue, Beast tells Dust that she is dying and within a week her cells will completely degrade into dust.  Sooraya has been talking with the imprisoned Donald Pierce, and she goes to him.  He tells her can can cure her if she frees him.

That’s going to take us right to the final issues of this series.
