X-Men: First Class #2-3 (2007)

This series has been doing excellent one-and-done stories that take place “between” the old Lee/Kirby X-Men issues.  This is a foray into a two-issue story.  Like all the other issues of this series so far, it’s a home run.

Professor X summons the team to go to Monster Island.  Once there, Professor X keeps pushing them hard, through giant dragonflies, dinosaurs, killer trees, etc., telling them they must reach “the volcano.”  He’s a complete jerk about it, which si true to character, only … It’s not him.  It’s a trick by Mastermind.

Of course the ruse is discovered eventually and all is well.

Issue #3 has a back-up story with art by Colleen Coover.  Scarlet Witch asks Jean if she wants to hang out, so they go to the shore and stop some hoods cosplaying as a weird combo of Captain America and Thing/Punisher.

It’s cute, fun, and consistent with the level of quality and “all-ages content” that has made this series so much fun and such a joy to read.
