X-Men Annual (2007)

SHIELD allows Cable, Rogue and Mystique to board the helicarrier holding Northstar and Aurora so that the X-Men can try to restore the twins’ mental states. Northstar is under sedation because he’s been turned into a mind-controlled slave by the Hand. Aurora’s already fragile mind was snapped by Malcolm Colcord as part of his Weapon X project.

Cable uses psychic tech to lead each twin through the history of their life (a nice way to give new readers a taste of who they are). It’s working, but then Exodus and his new Acolytes attack the Helicarrier and the X-Men have to break away to fight them off.

Why does SHIELD even have these things? They’re constantly getting invaded or blown up.

The fight is solid action. Mystique gets to kick Tempo in the head.

Her actions lead Rogue to be kinder to her–their mother/daughter relationship is explored throughout this issue as Mystique continues to be worried about Rogue’s love-life and her relationship with Gambit. (TBH, I’m worried about that, too. Gambit is awful.)

As a result of the fight’s interruption, the twins awaken before the treatment is done, but are healed enough to help SHIELD and the X-Men help fight off the invaders.

Exodus and his team escape and go to a hidden base, where it’s shown that they are working with Mister Sinister.

No suprise there, really.

Good story, glad to have the twins back in action again.
