X-Factor #39 (2009)

TAG: PROPSAL

Recently, Darwin’s father sold his son out, but now dad’s in a coma.  Darwin has a moment in the hospital to forgive his father before deciding to leave him forever.

Madrox also tries to make some amends by apologizing to Siren (who is carrying his child), and in response she asks him to make an honest woman out of her.  So, they’re getting married.  Theresa gives birth this issue and, by coincidence, it’s in the same hospital where Val Cooper is recovering from a gunshot wound–and she swears that the mission of her O*N*E Sentinel program is to make the world safe for mutant babies.  Of course that’s hard to believe, but everything is looking up until…

…Madrox accidentally absorbs his own baby, just as he absorbs his dupes.  And so newborn baby Sean is gone, just like that.

It turns out, it wasn’t Madrox’s kid–it was one of his dupes’ kids.

Siryn’s pissed, of course.  She breaks Madrox’s finger and tells him to get out–and that the next time she sees him, she’ll kill him.

Madrox is a dick a lot of the time, but this one really wasn’t his fault.  Still, I get it.

Another great issue.  Peter David proves, over and over, that comics don’t have to tell big “event” stories to be great and memorable.
