While the Asgardian Gods were out being enslaved by aliens, a wizard moved in and created a fake Norse pantheon. The real Gods return and deal with it quickly, so that Odin can tell Thor that a new threat is heading toward them from outer space.
Tana Nile, the female alien who used to room with Lady Sif, has been hanging around in the pages of Thor lately, so naturally the problem here, called “The Black Stars,” emanates from their galaxy. Thor, Sif, Balder and Tana go to Rigel, but most of the citizens have fled in the face of the Black Stars.
The Black Stars are basically another kind of Galactus-they’re five living planets that go around eating other planets.
We now get an intergalactic epic that doesn’t make a lot of sense and isn’t very good. It’s nice enough to look at, what with the Buscema art, but only a true completist would bother to read it.
It is resolved when Rhun, one of the five Black Stars, realizes that his four companion Black Stars are all dead and he just didn’t know about it because he’s so huge.
The art is good but the story is kinda boring. Nothing innovative or even different from stuff we’ve seen before.
