Issue #24 is one-off in which the Six are reimagined as characters in a Western. Very cool.

Then it’s back to long-form stories.

So, there’s this guy.

Gail Simone can write the shit out of one-note characters.

And she pays tribute the great Mike Grell Warlord series. So far that one hasn’t hit the new 52.

I love this book.

Issue #34 takes a more serious tack.

On the one hand, this is a well-constructed, serious story that parallels the Secret Six’s trip to rescue one of their own from Hell against Scandal’s human/stripper’s girlfriend experience in an Earthly hell–being tortured by a sadist.

Then there’s #35, “The one where Bane rapes Penguin.

Penguin says Bane can’t get a hard on, Bane threatens to beat him with his dick, next frame Penguin’s mouth is bloody and he’s spitting.

Secret Six ends in the exact opposite way it began, but with the same philosophy.  We began with the villains uniting to destroy the heroes, and the Secret Six banding together against the collective, oppressive power of Villains United.

It ends with just about every super hero in the DCU coming after the Six: Heroes United.  But, as Catman and Deadshot explain–the same principles apply.

Fight the power!
