SPALSH PAGE
For the first time in several issues, Savage Tales offers new, Marvel character material. And it’s a very Ka-Zar centric issue. Sadly, the multi-chapter Ka-Zar story is written by Gerry Conway. But it’s drawn by John Buscema, so that’s good. And it’s got two ladies in leading roles. First, Bobbi Morse, the future Mockingbird.
She’d already appeared in some of Ka-Zar’s color stories in Astonishing Tales, but here she brings Ka-Zar into her Savage Land SHIELD base. Note the typo, where she is called “Bobby.” Don’t know if the editor or letterer was sexist and assumed the reference was to a man, or if they just couldn’t spell.
As for the other lady…
…It’s Shanna O’Hara, the future Shanna of the Jungle, and Ka-Zar’s future bride. And he doesn’t know who she is, so they’re meeting for the first time. Only they’re not. They were in Ka-Zar’s 1974 series together. So maybe this takes place before that? Only no, because in that series he had already met Bobbi Morse.
So, in addition to a spelling error, this issue appears to have a pretty major continuity problem as well.
And on top of all that, it’s got a generic, bland story.
But wait!
