The freak for this issue is Blackout, who wields control over some kind of dark substance that can be solid or semisolid.
He uses it to fly and to encase Nova like a fly in amber.
He calls it “solid light,” but it’s also called a “dark force.”
In the end, he is consumed by the dark dimension, but he will return.
Kinda looks like the melting Wicked Witch, eh?
