There’s a lot of groups called Hellions in the history of the X-Men. The titular group here is the squad of students assigned to Emma Frost, and they just beat all the other teams in an intermural competition.
The teens decide to go on a trip together and Rockslide and Mercury are stopped by NSA at the airport. (Why didn’t they use image inducers? And I thought the Stepford Cuckoos were part of Emma’s team—couldn’t they help? And why are they flying commercial if daddy Keller is so rich? Lots of questions here.)
The battle with Homeland Security gets resolved by Julian Keller’s rich daddy, and the team gets to the vacation spot (Keller’s daddy’s mansion), where a guy named Kingmaker (created for—and only ever used in—this miniseries) shows up to grant the team their wishes as long as they do his bidding to fulfil the wishes of his other clients. Of course Kingmaker is unsavory, the kids get involved in whole criminal enterprise involving Doctor Octopus, Paladin, and others. The kids take on Kingmaker, and the kids win.
A fairly by-the-numbers, self-contained miniseries, but I’m a big fan of the writers here so it worked for me.
