Tribute cover!

(Every cover to each issue of this series pays tribute to a classic Marvel comic.)
None of this is canon, but boy is it fun. Capitalizing on his tremendously successful–and excellent–Image Comics series, Marvel hires Robert Kirkman to tell the story of what would happen if the zombie virus infected the Marvel Universe.
It actually was Mark Millar’s idea first, and he put in the page of Ultimate Fantastic Four. But Marvel and fans dug it, so…

This first series starts with the infection well underway. Magneto has not yet been turned and he’s fighting off a horde. He’s overtaken, and the story shifts to Black Panther, Magneto’s Acolytes, and Wasp as the sole survivors–who flee to outer space.
Meanwhile, Silver Surfer comes to Earth but he, too, is overpowered. A group of zombies eat him, get the power cosmic, and are able to turn Galactus. This leaves the “non cosmic” zombies to try to save Earth. Which makes for some fun fights.

Like Red Skull vs. Captain America. And Wolverine vs. Juggernaut.

The cosmic zombies win and then they eat Galactus.

They then become space travelers and it ends with them attacking the brood.
The series ends with a flash-forward five years as the survivors return to Earth. (Wasp is just a head floating in a robot body.)

This comics is ridiculous and awesome. When this miniseries was launched, I’m quite certain Marvel had no idea it would be hugely popular. Many sequels would follow.
I know many people love the cannibal zombie genre and Marvel Zombies, and have a lot of fun with it. That’s fine — as an aunt of mine said “In matters of taste, there is no dispute.” But I must say I am just too squeamish and I hate the whole concept, especially Marvel Zombies (and DCeased for that matter).
At least DCeased has a cuter name!
