There are some really good issues in the Gerry Conway/George Perez run, and this is one of them. But it’s worth noting that the above image seems to have been inspired by John Byrne’s X-Men cover, which is better known and came out a few months earlier…
Someone should investigate this and see if Perez knew about Byrne’s cover when he drew this! As for the comic itself, we get a huge cast and it’s a joy to see George draw folks like Cheetah, Killer Frost, Psycho-Pirate, the entire JSA…Perez’s “big” approach to this story, and the huge cast of characters, immediately called ot mind for me his subsequent work on Crisis on Infinite Earths (maybe it’s the big Psycho Pirate connection). 3030
