The original (android) Human Torch gets a story written by future (extraordinary) Batman writer Scott Snyder, in what I think is first comic book script for a major publisher. Torch fights a battle but what makes this worth reading is how Snyder emphasizes his humanity while at the same time “strips” him of his flesh for most of the book, giving him a robotic appearance. When his fleshy covering is replaced, he goes on a date and…It’s nice.

It also manages to squeeze in the first (chronological) appearance of future X-Man Warren Worthington’s father.
This issue was easily one the best of these one-shots. Grade: A-
