tagsL FF break up, creators appearing
When this issue starts, a little bit of time has passed since Thing was killed by Reed in the last arc.
Reed and Sue are living separately. Johnny’s on his own, too.
Reed starts to scientifically examine death. He spent decades trying to cure Ben of being rocky. Now he’s trying to cure him of being dead. Reed decides he can do it by literally storming the gates of heaven to retrieve his soul.
I’ve always thought it odd that the Marvel Universe has nine or ten versions of hell, but no heaven. Apparently, Mark Waid thought that odd, too.
Jack Kirby appears as God. He offers to show Reed the secrets of life, the universe, and everything. Reed declines.
It’s time for the threesome to go home. They give Ben the opportunity to return with them, and he agrees.
Another act of God: Reed’s scarred face is now cured.
By rejecting an offer to prematurely get into Heaven and be all-knowing, their gift is an original sketch from God himself.
This has gotta be worth something on the convention circuit:
My only complaint on this issue is that this sketch should have been drawn by Kirby, or in Kirby’s style.
